About
Why the JSM?
We created the magazine to showcase Jewish artists, but in doing this, we realized that being proud of our identities is a statement against antisemitism. We hope that someone reading it would understand the most special joy that the Jewish community experiences, despite the everlasting challenges we face. We strive to ensure that students like ourselves don’t feel alone – and that in times such as these, when it feels as though expressing Judaism is not encouraged, there’s a space created purely to highlight our unique identities.
The JSM is a magazine for students to express themselves and showcase their talents in a space among others just like them, and through the creation of the magazine, we have been able to gain a deeper understanding of who we are as Jewish students – what it means to be Jewish and how to rise against antisemitism while upholding our pride. We hope the JSM provides a similar experience of growth and understanding for you, reader, whether you identify as Jewish or not.
The Founders
Charlotte Wenneker and Noa Spector have been best friends since they met in seventh grade through volleyball. They have shared countless memories and unforgettable experiences together, ones that will last them well beyond high school. They wanted The Jewish Student Magazine to be a safe space not only to share the pride and work of Jewish students, but also to create a community of hardworking, like-minded people. Noa and Charlotte hope the magazine will be read with a curious, open mind and a desire to understand because they believe that is the truest way to spread community.
